↗️ 5 mistakes Leaders make when asking for feedback!

🔎 Here are 5 common mistakes many People Leaders make when ASKING for feedback.

1️⃣ LOW FREQUENCY

Many Leaders rarely or never ask for it. “They will share when they have something to tell me”. No, they won’t! We need to actively invite this, ideally more than once a week.

2️⃣ LACK OF CONSISTENCY

When you ask for feedback two weeks in a row, and then only 3 months later, it raises eye-brows. Make regular asking a predictable element of your Leadership brand.

3️⃣ NO SAFETY

Asking for feedback about yourself in a large team meeting achieves one thing: maximum sanitation. Ask 1-1 to make it safe. React with curiosity, instead of judgment.

4️⃣ INVITING THEM TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE

Asking “What critical feedback do you have for me?” feels like an invitation to punch you. Few people like that. Instead: “What went well and what can be done differently?”

5️⃣ BAD QUESTIONS

When a Leader tells me “I asked my team for feedback and they said they had none.”, that’s a 🚩 red flag! We continue next week with some techniques to ask in a better way!
