🎙️ EP 96: The surprising way how to explore emotions in Coaching

Listen to the Podcast

Shownotes

In this episode, we discuss how to incorporate emotions in conversations using coaching techniques. We explore the three-step process of recognizing emotional shifts, sharing about them neutrally, and exploring them further. By noticing and exploring these shifts, we can deepen our understanding of others and build trust in our relationships.

Main ideas:

  1. Emotions always play a role in conversations, and as coaches, we can incorporate them in a productive way.
  2. Recognize shifts in verbal and nonverbal behavior, such as changes in tone, energy, or body language.
  3. Share observations neutrally, focusing on what you see without inferring or labeling emotions.
  4. Explore the shift by asking open-ended questions and inviting the other person to reflect on their emotions.
  5. Don't impose exploration if the other person doesn't want to discuss it, and respect their boundaries.

By mastering these skills, we can become more attentive listeners, deepen connections, and build trust with others.
