In a moment of overwhelm a few years ago, this phrase popped into my life through a friend and mentor.
βDo what you can
with what you have
where you are.β
Turns out, it is a quote attributed to Teddy Roosevelt.
It had a very sobering AND empowering effect on me. It enforced an inward look, towards what I can actually control. It helped me embrace the reality.
Good questions can follow from this, for self-coaching and coaching others:
What is something in your power that you can do? (Do what you can)
What kind of resources are available to you? (with what you have)
Being here right now, what choices are available to you? (where you are)
So, I hope you donβt mind my asking (you saw that coming..):
βWhat can YOU do
with what you have
where you are?β
Have a great day/week ahead! Maik
