↗️ Let’s ask some better questions!

Do you struggle to find good questions to draw people out? I want to give you some ideas in this issue!

It does not have to be complex.

From what I observe, for many people the tricky part is to change the learned way of asking. It’s often these everyday questions that we ask in a poor way.

Here are some examples:

Instead of
“Is there any topic you’d like to discuss today?”

Ask:
“What would be valuable for you to discuss today?”

Instead of
“Do you need any help?”

Ask:
“What specific help, if any, do you need?”

Instead of
“Are you overwhelmed?”

Ask:
“I see you work a lot. What’s going on right now?”

Instead of
“Do you agree that we achieved our meeting outcome?”

Ask
“To what degree did we achieve our meeting outcome, in your opinion?”

Instead of
“Do you understand?”

Ask
“What’s your understanding of this now?”

Instead of
“Why did you do that?”

Ask
“What thinking lead you to decide to do it this way?”

I hope you found these examples useful. If you ask better questions, you will find that others see you in a different light.

It’s one of your most powerful tools to sharpen!
