Ever found yourself stuck, looking at a huge task and not knowing where to start? I've been there too. Let me tell you about a simple trick that has helped me get through these times: it's about changing from a big goal to a smaller, everyday goal.
What this means is, instead of thinking about the end result (like finishing a chapter of your thesis), you focus on the steps to get there. I know, it's easy to feel scared by big tasks, but what if you just focus on writing for 15 minutes a day? It's a smaller, more manageable goal, right?
Here's a simple way to do it:
1. Big Goal: Decide what you want to achieve in the end.
2. Small Steps: Work out the steps that will help you get to your big goal.
3. Everyday Goal: Choose a time each day to work on these steps. Think about how you can make it part of your routine.
Here's a point to remember: this method doesn't mean you're aiming lower or taking the easy way out. It's all about making sure you're moving forward bit by bit to stop you from getting overwhelmed. The best part is, as you keep meeting your everyday goals, you'll see that you're getting closer to your big goal. It's like rolling a snowball – it starts small but gets bigger as you go along!
You've probably heard the saying: a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. So, break up your tasks, set your everyday goals, and start moving forward one step at a time.
In short: Look at your feet, instead of the horizon :)
You might be surprised by how much you can achieve this way! It's one of the best ways I've found to stop big goals from scaring me into doing nothing. Keep going and never lose your inspiration!
