"I am a pessimist."
vs
"I say a lot of pessimistic things."
Two statements that can both feel true at the same time.
Yet, the first screams "I can't change. It's just me!" while the second says "It's a phase, I can be different."
Just a minor difference in choice of words? I don't think so.
I gave this feedback to someone in a workshop a few weeks ago. She mentioned she's a pessimist and I challenged her on that whether it's always the case? She said no and we instead agreed on the phrase that she often says pessimistic things.
Afterwards, she came to me and shared that this little exercise had totally shocked her and changed her perspective about how she sees herself. 🤯
So my conclusion?
We are all pessimistic at times.
However, that does not make us pessimists. 🙂
Have a great week ahead!
