“What is your recommendation?”

A small question by a Leader with impact: “What’s your recommendation?”

Why?

Quote: “…more often than not, I have found that the employee bringing an issue up knows one or more ways of resolving it, they just don’t know how to navigate taking action.” Or they were simply afraid to speak their mind.

The Impact?

Quote again: “When I did ask, and then delegate appropriately, the team operated more efficiently, was more connected to each other, and trust took hold. I noticed that my team was more invested in the solution when they had a say in the approach — so not only did this method build trust and confidence, it built commitment.”

I can personally attest to that, too. When I (years ago) started to become more curious and ask that same question back to my team very regularly, I realized that it is a fantastic way to show respect towards their opinion. Yes, it introduces some discomfort for them, but if we respond

without negative judgment, it can form the basis of a more equal partnership.

Small intervention, big impact!
