It feels a bit arbitrary, but a switch to a new year helps many of us zoom out.
On a personal level, I found it helps me tackle a nasty pattern: On the one hand, I tend to become efficient in the detailed tasks of every-day life. Yet, I rarely take the time to consider whether I am moving towards the RIGHT goals in the first place.
Here’s a truth that’s hard to deny:
And here I am, declaring a BIG personal victory.
Over the last 3 days, I have accomplished something which I have procrastinated on for the last 6 (!) years: I built a very first 5-year plan that finally combines professional and personal ambitions.
It was HARD!
I love working in the detail. Defining these long-term professional and personal goals, then breaking them down into sub-goals for years, then defining some first quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily goals took gruelling HOURS.
And it opened my eyes!
I now see the sheer imbalance in some of my priorities. I see where there is a clear (duh!) disconnect between short-term activities and long-term goals.
I see where I have been working efficiently towards some wrong goals.
And: I am excited about 2022!
I wish for YOU to also put all your energies into the RIGHT goals…those that matter most!
The key question is: What are those RIGHT goals for you?
Happy New Year 2022!!
